One part of our installation will consist of two screens displaying images accompanied with a contrasting definition in a successive fashion. Here are some examples:
In our age of mass communication, how we find out what is going on in the world around us comes at us from every imaginable medium. Most importantly, electronic communications have exploded in recent years to the point where almost every person is connected all the time. We text, tweet, email and call each other in order to make sure the world knows what we are doing at any given time.
Our group, Danger and Awesomeness, stylized as D+A, seeks to uncover the artistic side of communications. Tracing interactions of people through their digital devices has a distinct beauty of ther interconnected web that is now digitized humanity. To simplify the massive web, we are going to try and throw back to our own youth when this whole communications revolution began.
When we were kids in preschool, summer camp, grade school etc we would play Whisper-Down-the-Lane/Telephone. This game of broken communications was inefficient and usually ended up with the last child shouting out something utterly ridiculous. "Purple Monkey Dishwasher!" We, I believe want to capture that mentality of passing a message along, but at the rapid and accurate speeds of the Internet.
Interactivity within this project is ideally simple but will take some time logistically. We want the user of the piece to be able to input their message via whatever digitally based communication they prefer and send it along to all the other mediums involved. We want to incorporate several visual concepts as well. The ideas that Leslie, Eren, Lamine and I come up with will continue to evolve with the project as we progress through our combined thoughts for the end result.
We, as a group, hope that this demonstration of artistic communication piques your interests. Thanks.
